Architecture and Urban Planning

Graduate Program in Architecture and Urban Planning (Academic Master's and Doctoral Degrees)

Program Description

The University of Brasilia's Graduate Program in Architecture and Urban Planning was created in 1962, at the same time of the creation of UnB itself. It was an impressive combination: the foundation of Brazil's new capital city (1960), and then the capital's first university and the first graduate program in Architecture in Brazil.

The main goal of the program is to train professionals of excellence in the areas of teaching and research and to contribute for the improvement of technicians and specialists who work in management, planning and administration bodies, mainly in the public sector.

The program gathers highly qualified faculty with a multidisciplinary formation. They articulate actions with researchers in the country and from abroad through networking and around 20 research clusters.

To foster its activities, it is supported by funding from national and local agencies along with cooperation agreements and partnerships with HEIs, professional associations and Government bodies.

The program is structured within three major research topics: Theory, History and Criticism; Project and Planning; and Technology, Environment and Sustainability. This allows for a specialized formation and, at the same time, for familiarity with a variety of inter and transdisciplinary themes and approaches. Every year, around fifity students graduate with Master's and Doctoral degrees from the Program. Along with them, the program also grants students graduate and extension certificates in the areas of environmental rehabilitation and sustainable development.

During all the years of its existence, several researchers linked to the program have received awards and distinctions for their works from Anpur, Enanparq and UnB itself. In recent years, the program has promoted a series of initiatives for the consolidation of its research and for its national and international insertion, focusing on qualifying the scientific production. This has raised the program to the highest level in the latest national program evaluation of graduate programs in the field.
